Phi Alpha Theta Applications!!
It’s that time of year! If you would like to join the history honors society, Phi Alpha Theta, Professor O’Neill will be accepting applications until March 1.
PAT is "an academic honor society for colleges and universities whose mission is to promote the study of History through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among Historians.” Membership gives you a line on your resume, a subscription to their magazine, The Historian, and the ability to apply to their awards and attend their conferences. For more see their website:
Eligibility: You must have a 3.1 GPA in History, and a 3.0 GPA overall and have taken four history courses (AP and transfer courses count).
To apply: Please fill out the google form: https://forms.gle/13EdA4LHj59Upe4d6 and drop off $50 for membership fees to Professor O’Neill’s box in SOS 153. Cash in an envelope with your name on it or a check made out to the University of Southern California is fine. The department will pay the fees for students who write an essay of around 500 words explaining how studying history has altered how they perceive the world. Email this to Prof. O'Neill (ljoneill@usc.edu) by the deadline.
Deadline: March 1 at midnight. We will initiate new members on our History Honors Day at the end of the semester.
Email Professor O’Neill with questions!
